Artist Statement
I’ve been drawing and painting since my youth and have an intense interest in art history. My work has been both representational and abstract/nonobjective. With the advent of the personal computer, I began to create art digitally. Artistic software such as Corel Painter and Photoshop and the technique of layering are utilized to produce varied works in terms of their texture, pattern, image, and impact. I view my work as somewhat expressionistic and somewhat iconoclastic. Periodically I find inspiration for this work from images from the Internet, movies and photographs. These images are altered and then incorporated into the piece.
After a career in education, I focus on creating art and printmaking. Finding that working in the digital realm was somewhat mechanical; I’ve returned to producing screen prints. I’ve recently combined the digital and silkscreen processes to produce a final piece. Acrylic markers, spray paint, stamps, and other techniques are sometimes used to enhance the piece. My work has been exhibited at various regional art centers, museums, and galleries individually and as a member of the Cheltenham Print Guild and the American Color Print Society and has received several awards.
