Second Biennial Celebration at Cheltenham Center for the Arts Our second Biennial Celebration recognizes the recent explosion of interest and creativity in printmaking. Contemporary printmakers are exploring ways of incorporating multi-layering techniques and combining mediums in their work. Processes such as etching, lithography, screen printing, photo transfers and collage are being creatively combined in this new wave of original prints. Cheltenham Printmakers Guild at Wayne Art Center December 6, 2013 – January 25, 2014 Outer Galleries Visitors to the Wayne Art Center’s Craft Forms 2013 show this winter will also view a major companion exhibition by the Cheltenham Printmakers Guild. The Guild is a group of 26 professional Delaware Valley artists whose work covers every form of printmaking technique, including collagraph, etching, monotype, metal relief, dry point, silkscreen, polyplate lithography, woodcut, collage, and digital, among others. Guild artists are well known for their experimental approach to printmaking, and viewers of the exhibition are likely to see some original prints that break new ground in the use of a medium. The exhibitions will run from December 6, 2013 to January 25, 2014. Printmakers Guild artist demonstrations and talks will take place on January 11, 2014 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. This will be followed by a reception from 3:00 PM – 6:00 pm to Meet the Cheltenham Artists. Please register for the demonstrations by calling 610-688-3553. One of the major goals of the Cheltenham Printmakers Guild is to reach out to the community through exhibitions, demonstrations and lectures. In cooperation with the Wayne Art Center, Guild artists will host printmaking workshops for Children and parents on December 14, 2013 10:00 am – 12:00 pm and a Printmaking Technique Workshops for adults and teens on January 18, 2014, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm and 1:00 – 3:00 pm. The Cheltenham Printmakers Guild was founded in 1969. Based on the philosophy that artists need not work in isolation, the Printmakers Guild provides an environment for exchanging ideas on printmaking processes and techniques, the aesthetics of art, and the creative process. Printmaking, the transfer of an image from a primary source to another, has a unique quality. Through the collective exchange of ideas and knowledge, the Guild strives toward enhanced creativity and a future vision. Through traveling exhibitions, the Guild’s art has been seen in numerous cities in the United State, as well as Canada, Holland and China.
