Kathleen Chapman
I am a printmaker who works with a wide range of processes including collagraphs, linocuts and woodcuts, monotypes and etchings. Although I was trained as a painter, I have discovered an affinity for the endless variety of methods and materials in printmaking, as well as a love for its unpredictable outcomes.
My background in painting informs my work process. Generally, I produce a series of four or five prints, and work back into each image with direct processes such as drawing and painting, collage, and stamping and stenciling text. Every print is a one-of-a-kind image.
My subjects have ranged from cemetery landscapes and the meaning of memorial symbols, to the repetition of familiar objects that often include abstract shapes, patterns, and textures. My recent series of prints uses random numbers and letters that sometimes morph into contemporary acronyms and words that reference my personal and global concerns.
