Stephen Kennedy
Stephen Kennedy is a painter and printmaker who studied painting with Danni Dawson and Nelson Shanks and printmaking with Merle Spandorfer.
“ I began printmaking 4 years ago when I took a class with Merle Spandorfer. She introduced me to the dark field monotype and I’ve been engaged in this type of printmaking ever since. My subjects vary, but my aim in all of them is to convey a sense of light and atmosphere with a painterly approach. While oil painting often involves a process that often takes weeks or even months to complete, the process of printmaking is more immediate and somewhat unpredictable. I enjoy the relative lack of control in making prints and I am always surprised. ”
Portrait collections include The Upper House of Parliament, Bermuda, The Athenaeum of Philadelphia, and The Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia.
He has taught painting for over 30 years and currently teaches portrait and landscape painting at Cheltenham Center for the Arts.He lives and works in Fort Washington PA.
